Palmetto Island State Park LA to Sea Rim State Park TX
32° and sunny this morning. We were greeted by the familiar and persistent songs of the cardinal. The other wildlife has gone silent in this cooler weather, but not the cardinal. It's as if he's saying, "Bring it on!"
One of our walks yesterday was a story walk on the kids trail. The pages of a book are displayed on waterproof signs that you can read while taking a walk. The featured book was Mardi Gras in the Country, about how Mardi Gras is celebrated Cajun style. If you completed a survey at the end, you would be given a book. I filled it out, hoping that it would be the story walk book. (Likely the oldest people to ever respond to their survey) They notified me that we could pick up our free book in the park office. It wasn't the Mardi Gras book. I found it on Amazon and ordered it for our great grandchild Rozie. I discovered that the Author, Mary Alice Frontenot (1910-2003)was also a journalist, a Louisiana native, and honored as a Louisiana Legend by Louisiana Public Broadcasting. She was most famous for her Clovis Crawfish series about animals and ecology of the Louisiana bayou. She was 84 when she wrote Mardi Gras in the Country.
We continued to follow the Louisiana coastline today. Lots of rice fields filled with flocks of birds that would take off as we drove by. Seeing an increasing number of cattle ranches as we get closer to Texas. When we crossed the river into Texas it turned to refineries.

The pictures that got away today:
An abandoned trailer with a sign out front that said "PLAN B"
A blue house with the name "My Blue Heaven" on it, and a For Sale sign in the front yard.
A Virgin Mary statue blessing empty Amazon boxes on the ground at her feet.
Lots of birds.
We arrived at Sea Rim in time to walk around and get the lay of the land before dark. There is a National Wildlife Refuge on each side of us. Looking forward to some good walks tomorrow.
